To: Multiple recipients of list SCOUTS-L Status: RO X-Status: I finally heard from my son last night. They came off the trail yesterday afternoon. While berating him for not calling home after his check-in physical to let us know how he did (we were concerned about his weight) he told me there wasn't a scale in sight. Seems the folks at Philmont may have heard all of those people raising cane about deciding to strictly enforce the weight/height guidelines at the last minute. I would suspect that the policy will be strictly enforced next year. To me, a year's notice is a lot more fair than what they tried to do this year. But, I will say again, my boy was in much better shape for his trek after losing 15 pounds and hiking 8 miles a day for the two weeks leading up to Philmont. Has anyone considered, like the camps that require Rifle Shooting MB before Shotgun MB, could Philmont have decided to enforce their weight limits as a way of reducing the number of people on the trails?
