It is the Headquarters of The Scout Association (United Kingdom) , a camping site and the International Training Centre for Scouting. It was originaly purched by W de Bois McLaren as a campsite within hiking distance of the poorer districts of London. When Baden-Powell established his training for " Scout Officers " as they were originally called, he held courses there. Completion of training resulted in the award of the Wood Badge, the Advanced Leader Training Award of scouting the world over. As if any of the trainers in your district has a copy of the BSA book " A History of Wood Badge in the USA " ... this has loads of information, probably far more than you will need.
