As a Scout in the Catalina Council, we had the Tribe of the Papago at one of our summer camps. It was a service group dedicated to improving the camp and the experience of younger campers. By no means was it an alternative to OA, but I'm happy to have been in such outstanding company and note with interest that some of the things we did are still evident today. After being inducted the members wore a soft piece of rock (red as I remember) around their neck. They then advanced upward and at each level got a longer piece of rock with an additional symbol on it. I believe the top level was 5. Most of the time you just saw people who had attained/been awarded the 5th level with the rock on their necks. It was not the Akron Council or the Cleveland Council. All I can remember is that I learned about the society at their camp during a EC6A conference in 70's. Jim Yours in Scouting Jim Moss 12340 W.
