I also use this for lunch at our Scoutmaster Fundamentals training. Take a look at it and use if you like. When the lunch break is called in your training, bring out trays or boxes with the ingredients to make great hoagie sandwiches. Make up one tray/box for each patrol. (see ingredients)...the only trick---they have to build the sandwich correctly or they don't get to eat it! (obviously, an empty threat but one that makes the game fun).....now, you give the SPL a manilla envelope that contains the instructions for building the sandwich for the whole group (we usually divide into about 3-4 patrols-we also try to do JLT with at least one more troop). Their first task is to obtain a set of instructions. They open the package and find that there are THREE sets of instructions in the form of jigsaw puzzles ---but all mixed up. I use spray adhesive to glue the sandwich instructions on a piece of heavy posterboard, then I cut up one set of instructions with ONLY STRAIGHT lines, one set of instructions with ONLY CURVED lines and one set of instructions that have both straight and curved lines but with HOLES PUNCHED in the pieces (use paper punch). Obviously, their first task is to figure what makes up a "puzzle set" - so the patrols have to work together. Remember, you need one "puzzle" for each patrol. Then, just let 'em go off in patrols to figure out how to build the sandwich according to the instructions. I use loaves of french bread and cook the turkey ala reflector method I posted a few months back but you can easily vary the ingredients. Here are the instructions: (BTW, the letter "E" is thrown in for confusion ;-) ---------------------------instructions below-enlarge to fill 8X11 paper----- BUILD SANDWICH IN THIS ORDER: 1st step: Third letter of name of five-leaved plant that grows up side of trees. 2nd step: First letter of phrase on the scroll on the bottom of the scout emblem. 3rd step: 5th letter of 7th part of the scout law. 4th step: 1st letter of scout slogan. 5th step: 2nd letter of most common cause of blocked airway in CPR. 6th step: First letter of word that 1st star stands for on scout emblem. 7th step: Last letter of the name of the third level of honor in OA.
