You have communicated many words of wisdom over the past year that I have been on the net but this one really stands out. Maybe its the insurance agent in me more than the Scouter. It is important to question rules when you differ with them and to gain an understanding of the background BUT you don't violate them and risk all because you want to do something. One day someone will learn the hard lesson. Maybe National should publish a summary of cases like this one where someone violated the rules and what the final outcome was. With both my insurance and real estate (haven't used in 18 years) licenses, the regulator authority quarterly publishes a booklet with information to include summaries of disciplinary action. It is educational and in some cases very much an eye opener. YIS Doug Nunnally I am an Eagle Scout's Dad! I used to be ... a Buffalo! (SE-408) I used to be ... a Staffer! The one from Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys. I laughed so hard that I had tears rolling down my eyes. It is so typical of a camping trip with boys. I go often with my boys on Scout trips and I'm all alone in my tent listening to the whispering and giggling going on in tents around me. And then the big "GO TO BED!," from there leader, so I can totally relate to this story. Thanks for the chuckle! However, BSA has yet to rewrite its language and I >suspect has determined it best to leave room for discretion. When I attended my first jamboree, I was amazed to see OA patches. Having grown up in the home of Mic-O-Say, I couldn't imagine putting anything on the flap of the pocket. In the many years since then, Mic-O-Say has come up with a flap patch. And, although it is available for any tribesman, I didn't see many worn around camp when I returned for a staff reunion last year. (There was, however, great fascination with my OA flap patch!!) I asked several people about it and the conclusion was that they were too much like an OA patch so they didn't wear them (the claw lanyard is the identifying item and is worn with civilian attire at scouting meetings as well as with scout uniforms). If you are interested in the History of Mic-O-Say, there's a page at http://www.ponyexpress.net/~bsa/mic-o-say/history.html Although I've been away from the reservation for many winters, Mic-O-Say still holds a significant place in my heart. I was able to attend ceremonies one week last summer and was amazed at how much of the ceremony I could recite as it went along. I had participated in approximately 50 ceremonies over an eight-year period prior that I lived in St. Joseph. >This web page is part of a website I'm developing on the history of the >Firecrafer organization. I can now officially identify a couple of patches I received a number of years ago. I only knew them as "firecrafter" patches. I do not remember the council name on the patch but otherwise I recall that they match the Woodsman and Firecrafter patches on your page. I received them around 1968 or 1969. Sorry I missed you at Ransburg. I think I taught camp school there in early summer of 1972 (but it might have been 1973). And, thanks for the doctor joke.
