It does a great job. Be sure and buy a prefilter (I've attached a Sweetwater pre-filter to mine) to keep out any sediment. You can save your main filter which is very expensive by putting a flushable prefilter (beyond the cheap sponge put on by Pur) on your intake line. Pumps can be slow depending on what model you buy. Plan 90 seconds a quart. If you have 12 in your crew and each crew member has two quarts that is 36 minutes with one pump, 18 with two. We always fill our water bags with unpurified water and use it for cooking (when water alone has to come to a boil before adding food) and dishwashing since our last rinse is in boiling hot water. It cuts down on the pumping and I have found it to be safe. I don't believe you need to purify water that is going to be brought to a boil anyway.
